As primeiras referências históricas da Quinta da Pellada datam de 1527. Nesse ano, a soma considerável de 80 pipas de vinho, foi paga como imposto régio. Álvaro de Castro, (Eng.º Civil de formação), herdou esta propriedade em 1980, dedicando-se exclusivamente a ela, restabeleceu a tradição familiar na produção de vinho, quebrada por uma geração. Levando a peito as suas referências da juventude, e recordando os vinhos produzidos pelo Eng.º Vilhena do centro de estudos de Nelas. O seu primeiro vinho aparece então com a vindima de 1989. Nessa altura foi apoiado na enologia pelo Eng. Magalhães Coelho. Em 2001 a sua filha Maria Castro, com formação em enologia, que desde a sua infância sempre esteve muito ligada à Quinta, integrou oficialmente a Quinta da Pellada. Desde 2005 (após a morte do Eng. Magalhães Coelho), contamos também com o apoio Enológico do amigo da Bairrada, Ataíde Semedo, e mais recentemente com o Tiago Félix. Cada vez mais procuramos fazer vinhos naturais, com o maior respeito pela natureza. Para que a particularidade de cada vinha seja perceptível no vinho de onde provém.

The first historic references of Quinta da Pellada date back to the year of 1527.  In that year the sum of 80 barrels of wine was paid, as a royal tax, to the local government. Centuries later, Álvaro de Castro, a civil engineer, inherited this property in 1980; at the time he decided that to make something out of the estate, he had to give it his full time attention. Rapidly the enthusiasm for the wine and viticulture made him decide to re-establish an old family tradition of winemaking, which had been broken for one generation. The first wine label as Quinta de Saes came with the 1989 vintage. In 2001, Álvaro's daughter Maria Castro, trained in oenology, who has always been closely linked to the state since her childhood, officially joined Quinta da Pellada. Since 2005 (after the death of Eng. Magalhães Coelho), Quinta da Pellada can also count on the support of Ataíde Semedo, a winemaker from Bairrada, as well as on oenologist Tiago Félix. More recently, the joining of Aydogan Cift has given the winery a more international character. We are increasingly looking to make natural wines, with the greatest respect for nature, so that the particularity of each vineyard and parcel is noticeable in the wine it originates from.
